<Power and Balance, and the Harmony of Life>
When I paint, I seek to explore the essence of life contained within, beyond mere form. In my work, large animals like tigers, lions, rhinos, and gorillas—possessing intense energy—fill the canvas. Yet I aim not merely to emphasize their majesty and strength, but to intricately connect smaller animals and decorative elements within them, forming complex structures.
This approach transcends simple contrast, conveying a philosophical message that explores the complexity of nature and life through the interplay of strength and balance. While the large animals appear as symbols of resilience, the smaller elements filling their spaces reveal nature's diversity and interconnectedness. This creates a harmony where strength and softness, grandeur and delicacy coexist.
I draw letter pictures.
"Letter pictures" are an original artistic technique that dissolves the boundaries between sight and language, transforming words themselves into visual images to create animal forms. This technique goes beyond simple drawing; it is the act of breathing life into letters.
I do not view letters as mere tools for communication.
Letters are living entities, vessels capable of holding form and emotion in themselves. Thus, I draw pictures through letters and embed letters within pictures. Up close, they are letters; from afar, they are animals.
This dual shift in perspective is my way of communicating with the audience. I express emotions difficult to articulate through language by unraveling them in paintings. This work that traverses the boundaries between letters and pictures is freedom for me, and simultaneously a dialogue with the world. The animals in the paintings are my emotions, and they are also the emotions of the audience.
Through this work, I dream of creating art that can offer happiness, even if only for a moment. I hope the audience will walk alongside me in my world, where life hides within letters, language lives within pictures, and the two intertwine.
<힘과 균형, 그리고 생명의 조화>
나는 그림을 그릴 때, 단순한 형상을 넘어 그 안에 담긴 생명의 본질을 탐구하고 한다. 나의 작품 속에서 호랑이, 사자, 코뿔소, 고릴라와 같은 강렬한 에너지를 지닌 대형 동물들은 캔버스를 가득 채운다. 그러나 그들의 위엄과 힘만을 강조하는 것이 아니라, 그 안에 작은 동물들과 장식적인 요소들을 정교하게 연결하여 복잡한 구조를 이루고자 한다.
이러한 작업 방식은 단순한 대비를 넘어, 힘과 균형의 상호작용을 통해 자연과 생명의 복합성을 탐구하는 철학적 메시지를 담아낸다. 큰 동물들은 강인함의 상징으로 등장하지만, 그 안에 채워진 작은 요소들은 자연의 다양성과 상호 연결성을 보여준다. 이는 강함과 부드러움, 거대함과 섬세함이 함께 공존하는 조화를 이룬다.
나는 글자 그림을 그린다.
"글자 그림"은 시각과 언어의 경계를 허무는 독창적인 예술 기법으로, 단어 자체를 시각적 이미지로 변형해 동물의 형상을 만들어내는 방식이다. 이 기법은 단순한 그림을 넘어 글자 속에 생명을 불어넣는 작업이라 할 수 있다.
나는 글자를 단순한 의사소통의 도구로 보지 않는다.
글자는 하나의 생명이며, 그 자체로 형상과 감정을 담을 수 있는 그릇이다. 그래서 나는 글자를 통해 그림을 그리고, 그림 속에 글자를 담는다. 가까이서 보면 글자, 멀리서 보면 동물.
이중적인 시각의 전환은 관객과의 소통을 위한 나의 방식이다. 나는 언어로 표현하기 어려운 감정들을 그림으로 풀어낸다. 글자와 그림의 경계를 넘나드는 작업은 나에게 자유이며, 동시에 세상과의 대화이다. 그림 속 동물들은 나의 감정이자, 관객의 감정이기도 하다.
이 작업을 통해 나는 잠시나마 행복을 줄 수 있는 예술을 꿈꿉니다. 글자 속에 숨은 생명, 그림 속에 살아 있는 언어, 그 사이에서 관객이 나의 세계를 함께 걸어주기를 바랍니다.
