AN JOON HEE

The exhibition title Filmujeon comes from the phrase “the brush dances.”
Junhee Ahn’s work, which can be described as calligraphic abstract expressionism, is created in a single breath—capturing the imagery that flashes through his mind with swift, instinctive brushstrokes. Above all, the roots of his practice can be traced to the ink-wash painting traditions of Namdo in southern Korea, where he was born and raised.

Art critic Yoon Jin-sup notes that what stands out most clearly in Ahn’s work is the release of qi that emerges through his long discipline with the brush. He also points out that the artist strips away the superfluous, expressing the essence of nature through concise structures and an intentional spontaneity.

Ahn gathers energy throughout his entire body and seizes the momentary feeling as if the brush were truly dancing. His movements are so agile that they resemble a fisherman who senses the slightest tug and instantly hooks the fish. The traces of his brushstrokes—unfolding across yellow, light green, and white grounds—ignite on the canvas. His restrained yet decisive strokes reveal the depth of training he has accumulated over the years.

서체 추상표현주의로 말할 수 있는 안준희의 작품은 뇌리에 떠오른 심상적 이미지를 빠른 필치로 한 호흡에 그려내는 것이다. 무엇보다 작가는 자신이 태어나고 자란 한국 남도의 수묵 전통에서 그 뿌리를 찾을 수 있다. 윤진섭 미술평론가는 안준희의 작품에서 뚜렷이 느낄 수 있는 것은 붓의 수련을 통한 기의 발산이다. 또한 군더더기를 덜어내고 자연의 요체를 간명한 구조와 무작위의 의지로 풀어내고 있다. 안준희는 정말 붓이 춤이라도 추는 것처럼 온몸에 기를 모아 순간의 느낌을 낚아챈다. 그 동작이 어찌나 날렵한지 마치 낚시꾼이 물고기의 입질을 감지하고 순간적으로 낚아채는 것과도 같다. 노랑, 연두 흰 바탕위에 펼쳐지는 붓질의 흔적들이 캔버스 위에 작열한다. 일필의 절제된 필치가 그 동안 쌓은 수련의 깊이를 보여주고 있다. 라고 평했다.
