NAM SANG HEON

The Mental Image Series employs the phenomenon of pareidolia—the psychological process of recognizing familiar shapes within disordered patterns. This particular work within the series observes the geometric currents and rough waves of the sea, where shapes emerge by chance, and reinterprets them as the image of a tiger.

Since ancient times, the tiger has been regarded as a symbol of exorcism and protection, a sacred being. The waves in the work are embodied as the form of a ferociously roaring tiger, conveying the meaning of repelling impending misfortune and safeguarding peace.
